Kollam, Kerala – In a significant move to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry practice, the Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) and the Civil Engineering Department of Bishop Jerome Institute organized a comprehensive industrial visit to the Indian Institute of Infrastructure and Construction (IIIC) at Chavara.
Bridging the Skill Gap
The visit provided students with a first-hand look at the state-of-the-art facilities at IIIC, a premier "Centre of Excellence" established by the Government of Kerala. As an industry-driven campus, IIIC serves as a vital hub for high-end training in construction engineering and management.
Highlights of the Visit
The BJI student delegation was guided through several key areas of the 9.2-acre campus, including :
- Advanced Labs & Workshops: Observation of modern equipment used in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems and BIM (Building Information Modelling).
- Sustainable Infrastructure: A detailed tour of the campus’s eco-friendly initiatives, including the full-fledged Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and rainwater harvesting systems.
- Expert Interaction: Students engaged in a Q&A session with industry experts, gaining insights into current market trends and the global demand for skilled infrastructure professionals.
Student Perspectives
"Seeing the scale of project management and the precision of the lab equipment at IIIC has completely changed how I look at our classroom blueprints. It’s one thing to calculate load, and another to see the infrastructure required to support it in the real world." — Final Year Civil Engineering Student
Looking Ahead
BJI continues to prioritize experiential learning through such collaborations. This visit is part of a series of initiatives by the BJI-IEDC Boot Camp and IIC to foster a culture of innovation and ensure that our graduates are not just degree-holders, but industry-ready professionals.
