Kollam, September 19, 2026 — The FOSS Club of Bishop Jerome Institute (BJI), Kollam, in association with ICFOSS, successfully conducted a comprehensive one-day hands-on workshop on Python Programming at the Mechanical CAD Lab (Room No: 113).

Designed to equip engineering students with foundational coding expertise and problem-solving skills, the workshop witnessed active participation from 50 students across various engineering departments.

Expert Facilitation from ICFOSS

The session was led by industry researchers from ICFOSS:

  • Ms. Arya Sreekumar – Research Assistant, ICFOSS

  • Ms. Nimisha Chandran S R – Research Intern, ICFOSS

The initiative was guided under the mentorship of V. Sreeja, Assistant Professor and FOSS Advisor at BJI, with student coordination managed by Durga Sugathan (4th Year, Data Science).

Comprehensive Hands-On Sessions

The day-long interactive event was divided into four technical modules covering core Python programming concepts and technical interview preparation:

  1. Python Fundamentals & Data Structures: Introduction to core data types, lists, tuples, sets, and dictionaries, alongside practical practice with built-in functions like type(), sum(), append(), and insert().

  2. Loops & Control Statements: Interactive sessions on flow execution using for and while loops, complemented by break, continue, and reverse iteration exercises.

  3. Functions & Technical Interview Preparation: Explored function definition, parameters, and arguments, coupled with real-world coding problems frequently asked in technical interviews.

  4. Object-Oriented Programming (OOP): Introduced foundational OOP principles including classes, objects, encapsulation, and polymorphism using practical examples.

Participant Response & Feedback Highlights
