BJI Architecture Dept and RTO Kollam Host Competitions to Mark National Road Safety Month 2026

KOLLAM | January 31, 2026 — As part of the month-long National Road Safety Month (January 1–31), the Department of Architecture at Bishop Jerome Institute (BJI), Kollam, is hosting a major dual-event today to promote road safety awareness among the youth. Organised in association with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Kollam (Motor Vehicle Department, Kerala), the events are centered around the theme: "Cross Roads: Development Through Road Safety".

Creative Expression and Public Speaking

The campus is buzzing with activity as students from across the region participate in two distinct competitions designed to engage different age groups:

  • Poster Making Competition: Aimed at unleashing the creativity of students from the primary level to senior secondary school. The competition features a "Special Category" for students of Classes 2 and below, alongside Category I (Classes 3–5), Category II (Classes 6–8), and Category III (Classes 9–12)
  • Flash Talk Challenge: This challenge tests the public speaking and analytical skills of older students, focusing on how road safety is a critical component of national development. It is open to Category I (Classes 6–8) and Category II (Classes 9–12).

Promoting "Sadak Suraksha - Jeevan Raksha"

Both events align with the national campaign slogan "Sadak Suraksha - Jeevan Raksha" (Road Safety - Life Protection), which emphasizes that safety is a shared responsibility and a prerequisite for protecting human life. By involving the Architecture Department, the organizers aim to highlight the role of infrastructure design in preventing accidents and fostering a safer traffic culture.
